CHARACTER EDUCATION

At Aldene School, we are committed to infusing character education into all parts of the school day to facilitate the growth of our students to be responsible and contributing members of society. We follow the guidance of Character.org a nationally recognized organization dedicated to infusing character education into schools. You can access the Character.org website here. www.character.org

Teachers and staff at Aldene intentionally teach students about five specific character traits, both moral and performance traits, that come from The School with a Heart.

Helpfulness

Excellence

Acceptance

Respect

Trust

In addition to learning about these traits, students are given numerous opportunities to practice these throughout the school year. Students are helpful to each other, both academically and socially, and express gratitude to those who help them such as Mr. Andrew, our school custodian, and the Roselle Park Fire Department who keep us safe.  Students strive for excellence each day in both their academic and social endeavors. Mrs. Gleason, our guidance counselor, teaches lessons on problem solving with peers. It is delightful to see students solve a problem without asking an adult for assistance! We are so proud that over 70 students earned a perseverance award this year for their dedication to excellence in their virtual classrooms.  We practice acceptance of others all year and especially during Autism Awareness Month. Students work as peer mentors, class buddies and lunchtime buddies to others. Aldene celebrates respect during the week of Respect in October and each day throughout the year when they interact with the adults, families and students in the building. Trust is something we value at Aldene and students are recognized when they are trustworthy.

At Aldene, we recognize students when they are caught practicing one of the character traits. If you would like to recognize your child for practicing these traits at home, click the “I Have a HEART” button to the right and complete it. Once you complete it, send to the main office at Aldene and your child will be recognized in school.

Aldene is proud to be named a National School of Character in 2022, a New Jersey School of Character in 2022 as well as the recipient of two National Promising Practice Awards from Character.org in 2017 and 2019.
